Morricone's Commentary Column2 MC2-005-eng

Characteristic instruments used by Morricone-5-Sitar
1. History: The sitar, is a long-necked in India, and has also been used as an instrument in popular music since the 1950s. The sitar is India's most iconic classical instrument. There are different opinions on its origin. The general impression is that it was improved from the Veena in South India, but according to textual research, it should be modified from the Setar in Persia. Legend has it that the sitar appeared in the 14th century, but in 1700, at the end of the Mughal Dynasty, the sitar began to gradually become popular. (Refer 01, 02),
2. Structure: The structure of the sitar is very interesting. It has a long neck, the upper main string usually has 7 strings, and the lower 11 are sustained resonating strings. The way to play is to pluck the strings with your fingers. The resonating string does not need to be played when playing on the main string. The resonance box is made of a gourd cover, and there is usually only one. Master-level models also have two resonance boxes.

3. Features: The sitar is famous all over the world thanks to the development of rock music. The timbre is soft and round, embodying the complaining, melodious and tortuous melody in Indian music, which is the most charming and magical.
